Heart of America Council (HOAC) Contingent Tour Dates

The HOAC contingent troops will depart on Wednesday July 21, and return on Thursday August 5, 2010. The pre-jamboree tour will include visits to historic sites across the eastern United States. Probable tour sites include the Arch in St. Louis, the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, the NFL Hall of Fame, Gettysburg battlefield, Mt. Vernon, Monticello, and of course, Washington, D.C.

Costs The estimated cost per person is $2,100, which includes the national jamboree fee of $795 and costs of travel, food, housing, equipment and pre-jamboree training. Fuel prices affecting travel costs are changing so that it is difficult at this time to set a final total. Some scholarship assistance will be available. A final cost will be set in January 2010.

How to Apply

Participation Requirements

Only about 10 positions remain to be filled.  Scouts are encouraged to apply promptly to be guaranteed a contingent position.  Once those ten remaining positions have been filled, additional Scout applications will be placed on the wait list.  If an opening occurs, the Scouts will be contacted in order of application to fill the slot.

Application forms for Scouts to be part of the contingent are only available online at http://www.myscouting.org/. A $10 fee will be due with the application. Scouts who apply will also need to have their troop Scoutmaster sign the application.

Scouts must be between the ages of 12 and 18, have a minimum of six months Scouting experience and hold the First Class rank or higher.

Note: all contingent adult leadership positions have been filled.  Adult leaders who wish to participate in the Jamboree are encouraged to apply for Jamboree staff positions. Applications for Jamboree staff positions are available online at http://www.myscouting.org/.

Troop Attendance at the Jamboree?

Troops that want to attend the Jamboree as a group on their own can do so - as day visitors. Leaders should be aware that there will be no accomodations for Scout troops within 50 miles of the Jamboree site.

Families and individual Scouts attending the Jamboree?

There will be provisions for day visitors almost every day of the Jamboree. There will be limitations on the areas that can be visited, and limited hours each day. Visitors will be able to get a sense of the Jamboree, and see and participate in some activity areas. More information on day visitors will be available online at the BSA national Jamboree website closer to the Jamboree dates. Families who attend as day visitors should not expect to be able to make connections with their Scouts.

This information is current as of the publication date but is subject to change and modification. It is based on prior council experience, available national information, and committee decisions to date. Participation requirements for youth and adults, and the application process are established by the national council and national jamboree committee. Updated official information will be provided as it becomes available.
