David M. Lockton Honored as Distinguished Citizen 

 

David M. LocktonDavid Lockton is dedicated to improving lives in the Kansas City area.  During the past 30 years, he has made his mark on the Kansas City business landscape by helping to stimulate the local economy and promote the area’s reputation for growth and development. We are proud to recognize him with the 2009 Distinguished Citizen Award. 

  When he joined his family’s insurance business, he was the ninth employee. Today, Lockton Companies has more than 3,800 associates. During his tenure, he has held the positions of President of the Kansas City office and President/CEO of Lockton Companies before taking over as Chairman of the Board. He has been instrumental in the many achievements of Lockton Companies, now ranked as the 10th largest insurance broker in the world.  Lockton Companies has become highly respected in the industry for its leadership, corporate integrity and innovation.

As Chairman of Lockton Companies, David focused on overseeing the complex, risk-management activities of offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America and still found time to advance the causes of many notable community non-profit organizations.

He served as President of the Heart of America Council of Boy Scouts in 2002 & 2003 and was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award in 2001. He also served on the Board of Directors and as President of the local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which named him the 2002 Mankind Award recipient for compassionate service.  In addition, he was the Campaign Chairman for the Heart of America United Way 2000, and very involved in Hope Center, Ozanam Home for Boys, and Junior Achievement.  David received the Mid-America Multiple Sclerosis Hope Award in 2006.

David’s commitment to give back to his community extends to his involvement in professional and civic organizations.  He has served on the Board of Directors of UMB Bank and Mark Twain Bank.  He served on the Builders’ Association of Missouri PAC.  He was on the Executive Committee of the Missouri Transportation and Development Council. 

He is a member of the Chief Executives Organization Board of Directors.  This group provides executive education programs and conferences for business leaders around the world.  He also serves as a member of the Rockhurst University Board of Directors.  David is a member of the Kansas City Civic Council and serves on the P-12 Education Committee.  In addition, he is working with community leaders and parents to improve the Kansas City, Missouri schools.  He believes our children will be the future of our community. We must support their growth and education so they are ready to take their place when called upon.

Ewing Marion Kauffman Scholarship - Aaron M. Young 

 

Aaron YoungAaron earned his Eagle Scout Award in June of 2009 and is currently registered through Troop 1024, chartered to Central United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and with Explorer Post 2379, chartered to Lincoln College Preparatory Academy.

 

As a youth member, Aaron has served his troop  as a Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Varsity Team Captain, Quartermaster and Instructor.  He is a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say where he is known by this tribal name, Crazy Cardinal, and is proud of the five summers spent at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.

 

While attending Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, he participated on the football and basketballs teams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Future Business Leaders of America.  Outside of school he was involved with sports and his church youth group.  He also assisted his neighborhood association and served in Kiwanis for three years.  Aaron also spent a few weeks each summer serving at Camp Cumcito as a counselor and lifeguard.  This is a Christian Bible Camp associated with City Union Mission.

 

Over the past summer, Aaron could be found working with the Young Brothers Lawn Service or with Young Construction Company.  He currently is attending the University of Missouri – Kansas City with course work aimed at Pre-Law.

 

David M. Lockton Scholarship - Jeremy T. Johnson

 

Jeremey JohnsonJeremy began Scouting in 1999 as a Cub Scout in Pack 4165 and continued to become a Boy Scout in Troop 1165, chartered to Budd Park Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.  He is now serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 1080, chartered to Holy Cross in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

While a youth member, Jeremy, earned his Eagle Scout Award in 2007 and went on to earn a total of 32 merit badges allowing him to earn 2 palms.  He served his troop as a Senior Patrol  Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Instructor and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Jeremy attended H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for eight years where he was elevated to the status of Runner in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say selecting the tribal name of Strong Determined Eagle.

 

Outside of classes at Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, Jeremy was active in football, Robotics Club, tutoring and peer counseling.

 

Jeremy has started classes at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, studying Mechanical Engineering.  Prior to college you could have found Jeremy working at Little Caesars Pizza.
