Commander Scott Waddle — Keynote Speaker

Scott Waddle At the age of 38, Eagle Scout Scott Waddle was selected to become the Commanding Officer of the USS Greeneville, an improved Los Angeles Class Fast Attack submarine in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  His leadership addressed low morale and decreased staggering turnover reducing it to 3%.  His ultimate test of leadership followed a tragic accident when the Greeneville performed an emergency surface maneuver and collided with the Japanese fishing training vessel Ehime Maru sinking the vessel in three minutes and killing nine onboard.

Scott will share with us the need of uncommon character, integrity  and uncompromising ethical conduct in accepting responsibility for one’s actions.

Investment in Character

This luncheon is an important part of our annual "Investment In Character" campaign that raises $2,000,000 to support quality youth developmental programs that teach leadership skills and values. By engaging volunteers who ask individuals to invest in the Boy Scouts of America, we are able to ensure that over 45,000 youth, or 20% of our metropolitan youth are touched by caring adults who serve as leaders and mentors.

Our 2009 luncheon raised $395,000 with just over 440 individual supporters in attendance. Thanks to the generosity of luncheon sponsors, contributions to the Heart of America Council for this event are 100% tax deductible.
